Important Note On Mounting The WireView GPU

With this news article, we would like to point out that when using the WireView GPU, care must be taken to ensure that all plugs are correctly inserted before commissioning the system. This applies both to connecting the WireView to the graphics card and to connecting the power cable to the WireView. For a better understanding, we would like to share with you an RMA case that was recorded after a customer inquiry.

Damage to the PCIe power connectors of a Radeon RX 7900 XTX

One of our customers approached our customer support team with a problem. His PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 7900 XTX had damage to the graphics card's PCIe power connectors and WireView. The customer converted his graphics card to a custom water cooler from a third-party supplier. The damage occurred after a short period of operation. In order to gain a better insight, he first asked customer service for pictures of the problem.

After an internal discussion, the customer was offered the option of us repairing the graphics card by replacing the power plugs. We naturally covered all the costs for this process. After the graphics card arrived at our facilities, it was immediately inspected and repaired by our technicians. After installing the custom water cooler, the Red Devil was then subjected to a function and load test to ensure that the card was working properly.

Incompatible with custom backplate from third-party manufacturer

During installation in the test system, the original problem that caused the defect was immediately identified. The backplate of the water cooler protruded beyond the PCB, which meant that the WireViev collided with the PCIe power connector on the PCB and could not be plugged in correctly.

We contacted the customer so that he could use the repaired graphics card with the WireView GPU as desired. The suggestion: milling away the protruding edge. After the customer got back to us, we took the backplate to the CNC milling machine, where the necessary work was carefully carried out. The customer now has the functional graphics card back in his possession and is satisfied with the support he received.

Of course, we would like to prevent other customers from experiencing similar problems and would like to take this opportunity to point out once again that care must be taken to ensure that the power connectors are seated correctly. This applies to PCIe power connectors and of course - or in particular - the 12VHPWR connector in all its variants. If the WireView GPU is used with a graphics card that has been converted to a water cooler, special attention must be paid.
